The Gold Coast String Quartet is an acoustic string quartet that specialises in performing popular and classical songs at events such as weddings, functions, parties and corporate events. We are available for hire in the South East Queensland region at the Gold Coast, on Tamborine Mountain, and in Brisbane. The group has four players: two violins, one viola and one cello. This combination of instruments creates the perfect harmonic balance and an array of gorgeous colours to create a sound that has been loved by many for generations.
The group performs light popular music such as 1000 Years by Christina Perri, Sway by Dean Martin, Love Me Tender by Elvis and Bitter Sweet Symphony by the Verve. We also play traditional European classics like Ave Maria by Schubert, Autumn from the Four Seasons and Pachabels Canon in D, and other church hymns. Hiring The Gold Coast String Quartet for your event will add a touch of style and elegance to your event. We are able to provide ambient music at your event for over 3 hours.

The ensemble is able to perform with flute. One violin player is interchanged for one flute player. All of the harmonies are still covered however there is a tonal change with the presence of a velvety flute sound.
The ensemble is also able to perform with the harp. The most successful combination that we have played with a harp is: 1 harp, 1 violin, 1 viola and 1 cello.
The permanent members of the quartet are Yena Choi (violin), Evan Setiawan (violin), Adele Ciuk (viola), and David Sue Yek (cello). We thought we’d call ourselves The Gold Coast String Quartet since we’re all locals and aim to emulate in style all that is the Gold Coast way of Life- energy, romance, and simplicity. If you are looking for a musical act to provide quality music for your event, contact The Gold Coast String Quartet.
Yena Choi (violin) at 14 years of age received her Associate Music Diploma for violin performance and has never played a wrong note since. While studying at the Qld Conservatorium she received several of the Conservatorium’s major awards, including two consecutive wins of the Paganini Prize (2008, 2009). Yena has played in master classes for and worked with artists such as James Judd, François Xavier Roth, Kirsty Hilton and Jack Liebeck. Yena supports her local Korean church with her musical talents by performing there regularly.
Evan Setiawan (violin) is regarded as a ‘late bloomer’ when it comes to musical talent. Picking up the violin at age 16 he was discovered in Toowoomba and was able to work his way into a career as a professional orchestral musician. He has been able to perform internationally on numerous occasions and regularly tours to remote parts of Australia. His second favourite group after The Gold Coast String Quartet is Deep Blue, an ensemble that incorporates movement and film with live string performance. In his spare time Evan helps his dad make tinnies (boats) in the family business.
Adele Ciuk (violin/viola) has toured internationally on numerous occasions as a freelancing musician. During concerts she is able to walk around playing the violin and then swap over to the viola, mid song. Adele is able to play the electric violin as well, she owns a Yamaha sv200.The hotel she enjoyed staying in the most on her last tour was the Grand in New Delhi. Adele looks forward to creating choreography for The Gold Coast String Quartet.
David Sue Yek (Cello) wanted to become a professional musician since he was 8. After graduating from high school he achieved a lifelong dream; he moved to Germany and played cello til his heart was content. On his return, he studied music at the Qld Conservatorium and graduated with Honours. He has toured professionally the U.S, Europe and most recently Korea. David writes and arranges some of his own songs. David has a passion for pop bands such as Bjork, Radiohead, DJ Shadow and Rage.
